Stockholm som stad började byggas på 1200-talet men från medeltiden (ungefär år 1000 till 1500 i Sverige) så finns det inte mycket kvar att titta på. Inte från gatan i alla fall. Anledningen är att de medeltidshus som finns i Gamla stan (dom är ganska många) har byggts om och byggts på under hundratals år.

Gamla stan blev dock knappast någon kritikersuccé.

Byggnaden har använts till mycket och under de senaste 100 åren har Svenska Akademien huserat i lokalerna. För att fira jubileet släpps nu en bok om byggnadens stolta historia. Börshuset vid Stortorget. En bit kort promenad från Stortorget längs Österlånggatan ligger Köpmantorget med sin bronsskulptur St. Göran och draken. En kopia som gjordes 1912.
